Bennie J. Bushnell of Provo, Utah was the 25 year old manager of the City Center Motel and lived on the premises with his wife, Debbie, and baby.  On July 20, 1976, Gary Mark Gilmore carried a gun into the motel and demanded the cash box.  He then told our cousin Bennie to lie down on the floor and shot him in the head.  Gilmore was convicted of the crime and executed by firing squad on Jan 17th, 1977.

Gary Gilmore is the name the world remembers because he was the first person executed in the United States after the US Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty after a 10 year hiatus.
